Hit and run investigation results in charges

CORNER BROOK  The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary arrested a 24-year old Corner Brook man on Sunday in connection with a December hit and run.

At 4 a.m. on Dec. 23 police responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of St. Mark’s Avenue and the Lewin Parkway.

At the time it was reported that at Dodge pickup truck had been driving on the Lewin Parkway when a 2002 grey-coloured Honda Civic proceeded through the intersection from St. Mark’s Avenue and collided into the side of the truck causing extensive damages. It was further reported that the driver of the car stopped for a short period and drove away prior to police arrival without providing his personal and vehicle information to the other driver.

The description of the male driver and licence plate number of the run vehicle was provided to police by the driver of the pickup. The run vehicle was described to have no front bumper and extensive front area damage as a result of the collision. The suspect vehicle was located by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Massey Drive later in the day. The vehicle, which was parked and unattended, was seized by the RNC.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was located Sunday and charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving while suspended, operating an unregistered vehicle, operating a vehicle without a valid insurance policy in effect, failure to transfer ownership of vehicle and failing to remain at an accident scene.
