The premier will be joined by Susan Sullivan, minister of Health and Community Services; Tom Marshall, minister of Natural Resources and MHA for Humber East; Vaughn Granter, MHA for Humber West; and Susan Gillam, CEO of Western Health.
Taking place at 10 a.m. at the Donor Wall on the first floor of Western Memorial Regional Hospital, the announcement comes just about two weeks after the province received a master program report on a new hospital for the city. That report, completed by Stantec, is the second pre-design report completed since the hospital project was announced in 2007.
In 2010 the province committed to starting construction on the facility last summer, however, last year’s budget only allocated $1 million towards the project. And that money was used for the pre-design report.
The province has already spent $20 million on the project. The site between Cpl. Pinksen Memorial Drive and the Lewin Parkway has been cleared and shaped, and water and sewer extended to it.
Despite concerns to the contrary, Dunderdale and Sullivan have both publicly stated in recent weeks that the province is committed to seeing the project completed.
