CORNER BROOK  The young man allegedly responsible for a rash of vehicle break-ins in Deer Lake has been released from jail.

Steven Saunders, 21, was released on the consent of Crown attorney Michael Fox in provincial court in Corner Brook Tuesday. He was released on an undertaking, and a previous undertaking remains in place.

He was charged with possession of stolen property and breaches of a probation order and a court undertaking when arrested in Deer Lake Thursday. The RCMP in Deer Lake reported finding more than $5,000 in stolen property in his home. He also faces charges of possession of stolen property and a breach of probation from Nov. 19 and a breach of a court undertaking from Dec. 23.

Saunders was scheduled for a court appearance March 26 to answer to the previous charges, but all matters will now be called May 14.
