Environment Canada is warning the public of high winds in Channel-Port aux Basques and vicinity today.

Southeasterly winds gusting to 100 kms/h are expected in the Wreckhouse region this afternoon.

"This is a warning that potentially hazardous winds are expected in the Wreckhouse area of Southwestern Newfoundland. Monitor weather conditions. Listen for updated statements," the weather office is advising.

Environment Canada says a low pressure system now over Southwestern Nova Scotia will move to lie near Northern New Brunswick this evening. A trough extending from this low will begin to sweep across Newfoundland this afternoon.

Strong southeasterly winds are expected to gust up to 100 kms/h in the Wreckhouse region this afternoon and will subside below warning criteria by this evening.

More information can be found on Environment Canada's website at www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/warnings.
