Reports of scam seeking donations for Labrador fire victims in Corner Brook

CORNER BROOK  The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating several complaints in relation to requests for donations in the Aspen Road area of Corner Brook.

At about 9:20 pm Monday, police received a complaint from a resident regarding two females canvassing the area seeking donations in aid of the residents of Labrador affected by the recent forest fires. The females did not have any form of accreditation and were refused a donation.

The RNC has no knowledge of any financial assistance being sought for the residents of Labrador at this time. Police are cautioning residents about giving money to unknown charitable organizations or persons who are unable to produce some form of identification indicating they are sanctioned to collect for a cause.

The RNC is continuing its investigation and encourages anyone who may have been subject to a similar request to contact police.
