DEER LAKE A truck driver and his passenger were taken to hospital after the rig they were in went off the road and overturned into the westbound ditch on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Howley exit overnight Wednesday.

Police say the driver and passenger were taken to hospital in Corner Brook with critical injuries and are expected to be airlifted to St. John’s later Thursday for further treatment.

The truck was hauling a load of frozen caplin westbound towards Deer Lake and awitness told police that there may have been a moose in the area at the time of the accident.

A collision analyst has been called to the scene, and more details are expected later today.
