DEER LAKE — He didn’t spend much time in Deer Lake, but provincial Liberal leadership hopeful Paul Antle made a quick stop at the town’s Tim Hortons, getting out to grab a coffee and shake some hands Tuesday morning.
The St. John’s businessman threw his hat into the Liberal leadership race last month. He said campaigning in Liberal Leader MHA Dwight Ball’s backyard is something to be expected. He called Ball an honourable man but the goal of the campaign, said Antle, is to keep voters informed.
“The only way to do that is by doing this little crossover,” he said. “Plus there’s a second ballot issue, and if we aren’t the first choice of the people we definitely want to be their second choice.”
Antle and Ball are two of five candidates running for the leadership position, which will be decided later this year. Antle said he’ll be back in Deer Lake in a couple of weeks for a more extended visit.
