BONNE BAY BIG POND Police have confirmed the identity of three people who died at a recent cabin that was levelled by fire, but their names are being withheld.
The remains of a 56-year-old Gillams man along with a 50-year-old woman and her son, both from Trout River, were found after the cabin on Whitewash Road in which they were staying caught fire at around noon Aug. 6.
The remains were sent to a medical examiner for identification and an autopsy report. Police are still waiting for the report even though they had hoped for it by Wednesday, and they say the families of the deceased are asking for privacy during their time of mourning. Police say they now hope to hear about the autopsy report by the end of the week.
Phone calls to several members of the RCMP Wednesday yielded no new information.
The fire occurred in an area locally known as Bonne Bay Big Pond. It is approximately 18 kilometres from Highway 430 and is accessible only by an off-road vehicle.
