MONTREAL Katarina Roxon of Kippens has won a silver medal at the International Paralympic Committee Swimming World Championships being held in Montreal.
The 20-year-old was a member of Canada’s four-woman team that finished second in the 4 X 100-metre freestyle relay event held Thursday night.
Roxon and her team finished the race in a time of four minutes and 35.41 seconds.
The team representing Great Britain claimed the gold medal in a time of four minutes and 27.95 seconds. The United States took the bronze, with its last swimmer finishing just 0.54 of a second behind Canada.
The other members of Canada’s medal-winning relay team are Aurelie Rivard, 17; Morgan Bird, 19; and Brianna Nelson, 21.
Roxon has swam in five events so far and has one more shot at a medal today when she competes in the women’s 100-metre butterfly. So far during the world championships, she has placed fourth in the 100-metre breaststroke, fifth in the 200-metre individual medley, seventh in the 100-metre freestyle and ninth in the 50-metre freestyle.
The swim meet continues today and wraps up Sunday.
