The Town of Deer Lake has placed digital cameras around the community as a means of gathering photographic evidence to use against those who illegally dump.
According to prepared release from the town, Illegal dumping has been a problem in the community for several years.
The cameras are in place to serve as a deterrent to those considering illegal dumping. No warnings will be issued, says the town, and anyone photographed pursuing illegal dumping will be charged and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
The town wants to remind residents that the proper place for the disposal of waste is the regional landfill site located north of Deer Lake.
Money to purchase the cameras were provided by the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB).
