BURGEO The RCMP in Burgeo is asking public assistance from anyone who might have witnessed an accident at the Burgeo wharf on Saturday evening.
Police received a call at about 8 p.m. notifying them of a man overboard at the Government Wharf in Burgeo. Police was advised a vehicle was backing onto the vessel and collided with an employee near the loading ramp causing the 60-year-old man from Ramea to plunge into the water near the stern of the Gallipoli Ferry.
The employee was removed from the water and transported by ambulance to the Burgeo Calder Health Care Center with non-life threatening injuries, including bumps and bruises.
The 27-year-old man from Ramea who was driving the car was arrested and taken to the Burgeo RCMP detachment, where he was later released with a promise to appear in Stephenville Provincial Court on the Oct. 28 for impaired driving causing bodily harm.
