CORNER BROOK The Child Exploitation Unit of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in Corner Brook says it has charged a 32-year-old man from central Newfoundland with child pornography charges.
According to the RNC, a search warrant on a residential property in central Newfoundland was executed Tuesday after police had received information regarding alleged possession and distribution of child pornography material over the Internet. As a result, a computer system and multiple mobile storage devices were seized as evidence and will undergo a forensic evaluation.
According to an RNC press release issued Wednesday afternoon, the man was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography and making available/distributing child pornography. He was held to appear in provincial court in Gander today.
According to the docket for provincial court in Gander, the accused is Randy Curtis Lee Davis of Carmanville.
The press release indicated the investigation into this matter began a month ago. The search warrant was executed by he RNC Child Exploitation Unit, with assistance from the RCMP Internet Child Exploitation Unit, Technical Crime Unit and Patrol Division.
According to Const. Scott Mosher, the RNCâ€™s media relations officer in Corner Brook, the investigation was launched after the suspicious activity was detected by online monitoring being conducted by the Child Exploitation Unit in Corner Brook. He said there is otherwise no connection to Corner Brook with regard to the accused or the alleged pornographic materials that were the subject of the investigation.
Davis appeared in provincial court Wednesday morning and was released on an undertaking. He is next scheduled to be back in court Oct. 29 for election and plea.
