STEPHENVILLE An investigation into a report of credit card fraud at a business in Stephenville is underway.
While the incident took place on Aug. 26, the business didn’t become aware of it until Wednesday, when the business was notified by Visa of the fraud.
Cpl. John Butler of the Bay St. George RCMP said it’s believed this might be a traveling fraudster as the business owner was told by Visa that similar frauds have taken place across the province.
The fraud usually involves a male and a female, with the male claiming he has a broken chip in his card and uses a manual method to enter information.
In this instance a laptop and a speaker, valued at $497, was defrauded from the store.
