Smudging ceremony will precede swearing-in

CORNER BROOK Corner Brook’s new city council will be sworn in at 1 p.m. this Sunday in council chambers at city hall.
Judge Kymil Howe will preside over the swearing in of Mayor-elect Charles Pender, who will then swear in the six councillors.
Immediately following the swearing-in ceremony, the new council will hold its first public meeting, during which they will vote to appoint a deputy mayor.
A traditional Mi’kmaq smudging ceremony will be held in Civic Square in front of city hall at 12:30 p.m, immediately preceding the official swearing-in.
The public is welcome to attend.
