STEPHENVILLE CROSSING A Stephenville Crossing man who is allegedly responsible for hospitalizing another man o in a fight on a street in the town early Tuesday morning will be in court Friday.
Darren Downey,34, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offense, and a breach of probation. The alleged altercation left a 29-year-old hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. He was first taken to Sir Roddick Thomas Hospital in Stephenville and later flown to the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s. He is now in stable condition, according to the Bay St. George RCMP.
The investigation is still ongoing, but Cpl. Steve Henley said no further details were being released. He would not confirm whether they were searching the area for a weapon or what extent the injuries are to the alleged victim.
