UPDATED: Corner Brook man charged with weapons offences

CORNER BROOK  A 57-year-old Corner Brook man was charged with a number of weapons offences following an incident in the city Sunday.

At approximately 11 p.m. Sunday, RNC officers responded to a complaint that the man, who was allegedly in possession of a firearm, was threatening a woman inside a home on Stratton’s Road.

Upon police arrival the 59-year-old woman and her 28-year-old son had exited the residence and were escorted to safety. Several minutes later the accused exited the residence unarmed and was taken into police custody without further incident. Both the accused and victim were known to one another and there were no injuries reported.

As a result of the investigation, the man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, careless use of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm and pointing a firearm.

He was held in custody pending an appearance in provincial court. The results of that appearance were not known as of press time Monday.
