CORNER BROOK Lloyd Burton’s pursuit of a recount of the Irishtown-Summerside mayor’s race has been delayed again.
The former deputy mayor of the north shore of the Bay of Islands town was defeated by just 15 votes in the municipal election. Concerns were raised in the town following the election because the returning officer was Rita Blanchard, the wife of the winner Tony Blanchard, and the polling clerk was her sister, Geraldine Wheeler.
Burton decided to seek a recount through the provincial court. It was delayed two weeks ago until today. It was set over again today, as the town recently secured a lawyer. Adam Baker was not ready to proceed today.
It will be called again Nov. 15.
