The source of this discarded trash will likely never be located now that the Bay St. George RCMP have closed the file on the case.
ST. GEORGE’S — The mystery of how a truckload of household garbage ended up on the Trans-Canada Highway on Tuesday will probably remain an unsolved case.
That’s because the Bay St. George RCMP have closed their file on the case due to having no suspects or witnesses.
Don Downer, chairman of the Western Regional Service Board, had expressed concerns about the incident, which took place about two kilometres west of the bridge that is under construction at Little Barachois Brook on Tuesday afternoon.
The Department of Transportation and Works sent out a plow to push the garbage to the side of the highway because it was considered a hazard to the motoring public.
Downer speculated that the incident probably occurred when a tailgate dropped on the truck that was likely bringing the garbage to the St. George’s Regional dumpsite, located about four to five kilometres west of where the garbage was found on the highway.
