PORT SAUNDERS Two men are in custody after allegedly stealing a boat and then breaking into a cabin, according to the RCMP in Port Saunders.
The police are continuing to investigate the incidents, which were initially reported early Saturday morning.
The RCMP was initially informed that the two men had failed to return home overnight. Early into the investigation, police discovered the men had allegedly stolen a small boat from a nearby wharf.
A search was initiated by local boat owners. The Joint Rescue Coordination Center was contacted and a Cormorant Helicopter and a fast rescue craft were dispatched to the area.
After a brief search, the two were located at a nearby cabin by local searchers and transported to the Rufus Guinchard Health Center for treatment of minor injuries.
During the ongoing investigation, police discovered the cabin had been broken into and extensive damages had been caused both inside and outside. Both men were later arrested in relation to the break in and have been charged with break and enter, mischief over $5,000, taking a vessel without consent, and other Criminal Code of Canada charges.
The two were scheduled to appear at provincial court in Corner Brook Provincial Monday.
