STEPHENVILLE  Joe Wiseman, facilitator of the anti-fracking event that is planned for Thursday from 2-6 p.m. in Stephenville is now being held at the Stephenville Lions Club.

The event to challenge hydraulic fracturing, or fracking — a technique using millions of gallons of water, sand and chemicals to break open shale rock deep underground.

Wiseman had originally said the event was planned to take place at the United Church parking lot on St. Clare Avenue in Stephenville but organizers decided to move it to the alternate location.

The main aim of the event is to support people in New Brunswick who are protesting against gas hydraulic fracturing in their province. Anyone on the west coast of Newfoundland is invited to come and provide their support.

During the event another issue will be a call for a total ban on hydraulic fracturing Canada-wide.

Organizations: Stephenville Lions Club, United Church

Geographic location: STEPHENVILLE, Clare Avenue, New Brunswick Newfoundland Canada

I hope this is the first of many events to pressure the Government into making the right decision for our future, Ban Fracking across Canada! I am very concerned for our Environment, our Health, our Tourism and Fishing Industry, but mostly, I am concerned for my Daughters Future. What type of world will she be left to live in, what type of world will my future grandchildren have to live in? How will I be able to explain to them that greed caused our generation to gamble their futures away. I hope many people feel the same and support this cause.
