Mary Young has been named 2014 Corner Brook Winter Carnival patron.

CORNER BROOK  Mary Young has been named this year’s Corner Brook Winter Carnival patron.

The 2014 Corner Brook Winter Carnival organizing committee made the announcement Thursday.

The local businesswoman will serve as patron for the 43rd edition of the annual festival of all things winter. Young has been a strong and loyal supporter of carnival for more than 15 years in her role as general manager at Mark’s Work Wearhouse.

Young was born in Howley to parents Stewart and Edna Wall. She and her husband, Roland, still maintain a cottage in Howley, where they enjoy walking and snowshoeing with their loving and caring dog. Young has worked in the retail industry for more than 50 years, serving customers in Corner Brook and surrounding areas. She is set to retire at the end of the year.
