CORNER BROOK — Pius Freeman Gould made a brief appearance in provincial court Wednesday, although his next scheduled court date wasn’t until Jan. 2.
The matter was called early in order to change the date of the scheduled appearance to Jan. 8 because there was an unspecified problem with accommodating an appearance Jan. 2.
Gould appeared via videoconference from Her Majesty’s Penitentiary in St. John’s, while his new lawyer appeared via telephone.
Gould, 51, has been in custody since being denied bail following his arrest Oct. 22. He has 29 charges against him stemming from separate incidents. Those charges include assaulting a peace officer, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, uttering threats, mischief and breaches probation and other court orders.
Gould has prior convictions for verbally and physically assaulting police officers.
