Corner Brook native Aley Waterman has released her new album titled “Young Hymns EP.”
CORNER BROOK — Corner Brook native Aley Waterman recently released a new album.
'Young Hymns EP,' released by Waterman under the name GALA, contains four songs — “Young Hymns,” “Just Enough,” “Starting Point,” and “Little Fires” — in the version of an extended play.
The St. John’s resident plays piano and sings on the album, which also features back-up performances and instrumentals from a number of other musicians and singers.
“This is a project I’ve been working on for a while,” Waterman states on the website www.galasongs.bandcamp.com.
“With the help of some talented musical friends, some of my little songs have been turned into these ethereal piano-driven tunes.”
All the songs are written, sung, and played on piano/keys by Waterman.
Little Fires is a song Waterman received some attention of in 2011 when it appeared online at www.heavyweather.ca — a website featuring intimate performances by several artists from Newfoundland and Labrador.
It helped propel her pursuit of a solo career.
While growing up in Corner Brook, she played in a band called Tudor Street Collective and, while in university in St. John’s, she was part of a group called Say Fire. After that, she began dabbling in her own work.
