GALLANTS  A 21-year-old Corner Brook man and a woman were taken to Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook on Saturday afternoon following a four-vehicle accident on the Trans-Canada Highway.

Cpl. John Butler said the original accident involved a pickup truck and a car that collided during whiteout conditions on Gallants Hill, about five km east of the White’s Road turnoff.

While outside his vehicle trying to assess the damages, the man was struck by a van that had drove into the whiteout conditions. Further to that another car rear-ended the original truck that was in the accident, injuring a woman in one of those two vehicles.

The man who was struck on the road was taken to hospital for treatment of leg injuries, while the woman was complaining of what were believed to be soft tissue injuries.

The Trans-Canada Highway was closed at that location for about an hour while the injured were being attended to and the vehicles involved were removed from the area.
