CORNER BROOK  A man wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant is expected to be shipped back to Alberta in the coming days to face outstanding criminal charges against him there.

Gary Green, 23, has a connection to Corner Brook and was arrested by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in the western Newfoundland city after police received an anonymous tip Monday.

The RNC had initially said it was looking for Green in St. John’s — where he had reportedly last been seen — and that he was armed and dangerous. He was arrested at a business in the Murphy Square area of Corner Brook without incident after police investigated the tip received through Crime Stoppers.

Green made a brief appearance in provincial court later Monday and was back in court again Tuesday morning. There had been a warrant for his arrest based on outstanding charges from Corner Brook, but those dated charges were withdrawn by Crown attorney Adam Sparkes and the arrest warrant vacated Tuesday.

The charges from Alberta are more serious, said Sparkes, and the RCMP in that province want the arrest warrant issued from Cold Lake executed. Judge Kymil Howe endorsed having Green brought back to Alberta to face the charges.

The RCMP, with the help of the RNC in Corner Brook, have six days from the time of Tuesday’s court appearance to execute the warrant and have Green returned to Cold Lake.

The charges against him in Alberta include break and enter, theft, robbery, being disguised with intent to commit an offence, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and intimidation of a justice system participant.
