CORNER BROOK  When area residents get together to talk about plans for the new hospital in Corner Brook tonight there will be a few people present who are willing to listen to their concerns.

Opposition Leader Dwight Ball, Liberal MHA Eddie Joyce, Liberal MP Gerry Byrne and NDP Leader Lorraine Michael will all be there.

From the size of the facility to the services it will offer, Joyce, the member for the Bay of Islands, has been vocal in his concerns about the facility planned to replace Western Memorial Regional Hospital.  He said now that the building is in the design stage people need to be vocal.

“If you want input now, if you want things in the new hospital, and change what’s currently planned, it’s time to let the government know that this is not good enough.

“If you don’t get the space in the design stage you won’t get the equipment. It will never come.”

As health critic for the NDP, Michael said she thinks it’s important to hear what the people have to say.

“And what it is that they want us to say back to the government.

“What is the message that they want me to carry into the House of Assembly?”

That’s why she accepted the invitation to attend.

“I think it is important to be there in person to let people know that we are concerned for them and we do want to hear directly from them the questions that they have.”

She said she knows people are concerned about the delays in the hospital and also that there is a lot of speculation about what will or will not be in the new hospital.

“I’m hoping that tomorrow night’s meeting might be able to get some clarity around some of the issues for them.”

Michael also believes that speaking out can help.

“We have lots of examples of government sort of waking up and starting to take some action when opposition keeps harping on something.”

She said this is one issue she’s willing to harp on.

In a press release issued Tuesday, Byrne said “it’s time for the people to take charge of this issue and, rather than be told by the PC government what our future hospital will look like, to tell the government what it will be like.”

The MP for Humber-St. Barbe-Baie Verte said “they answer to us and not the other way around.”

Meanwhile, Joyce said he has personally invited Health Minister Susan Sullivan, Finance Minister Tom Marshall and PC MHAs Vaughn Granter and Sandy Collins to attend the meeting.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Greenwood Inn and Suites.

I am DEFINITELY voting NDP in the next provincial election (which, by the way, couldn't come fast enough). ENOUGH is enough.. Newfoundland deserves better. I am done with the Liberals and "Progressive"Conservatives (Forward Backward Party). It's time to give the New Democrats a chance. I like what they stand for.

On another note, it will be interesting to see if any of our city councilors or MHAs are present for the meeting.

Whether or not the hospital wasn't built before or whether someone is trying to score brownie points is totally irrelevant. A new hospital will be built. What is important now is what hospital will we get; the one we deserve that projects well into the future for appropriate health care or the "right sized" one that Tom Marshall and the government is trying to pawn off on us.

Ben you are either pro or con on the hospital issue. Where are you on this? This has very little to do with Gerry Byrne. I could care less about politicians but I do want to have the best hospital. I am In support of Israel Hann on this issue, he is on to something.

People be careful, Liberals would like for us to think if they were in power to day we would have the new hospital. They are only trying to score brownies point, at the expense of the people

I wonder how many of you, who sit back & wait for others to do the work, will actually attend this meeting. Help support those who have to travel to St Johns for their cancer treatments. Be their advocate! Remember, it could be you or yours that you'd be representing also. Thank you
