CORNER BROOK  The lone occupant of a pickup truck that went off the road when pulling over to allow an ambulance pass by on Route 440 Tuesday morning was not hurt.

The man was travelling in the southbound lane  on the north shore highway near the Corner Brook landfill site when he encountered the oncoming ambulance with its emergency lights activated at around 7:45 a.m.

When he attempted to yield to permit the ambulance to pass by more easily, the driver was unable to stop on the slippery road and pulled to the side of the road to avoid traffic in front of him.

The vehicle left the roadway, rolled into the ditch and came to rest on its roof, causing moderate damage.

According to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, the driver did not report any injuries and the road was closed briefly to allow the vehicle to be removed from the scene.

It clearly states it happened near the landfill site.

Actually the North Shore Highway runs from the Ballam Bridge to Cox's Cove. Consider reading the article and not just the headline and you may be surprised with the wealth of information contained within. (sarcasm)
