Deadline for applications now March 21
STEPHENVILLE — Those planning on nominating people for this year’s Stephen Awards have to submit applications a little earlier.
That’s because National Volunteer Week is earlier in April this year, pushing back the date of the deadline for receipt of applications to March 21. Applications will be going out on Feb. 3.
Although applications will be delivered to most organizations, anyone looking for forms can pick them up at Stephenville or Kippens town hall, The Georgian office or CFSX radio station.
All residents of Stephenville, Kippens, Noel’s Pond and Cold Brook can be nominated for the five competitive awards: citizen of the year, youth of the year, junior male athlete of the year, junior female athlete of the year, and senior athlete of the year.
The youth category is open to any student attending secondary school in Stephenville, while the junior athlete awards are open to students in secondary and post-secondary schools up to the age of 21 as of Dec. 31, 2013.
Outstanding volunteer appreciation certificates are non-competitive and recipients can reside anywhere in the Bay St. George area if their volunteer work was done in the Town of Stephenville and/or the Town of Kippens.
Organizations can nominate up to three candidates in each of the competitive categories, and one for volunteer appreciation.
The awards banquet will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion in Stephenville on April 12.
