CORNER BROOK As the west coast digs out from yet another snowstorm it will be back to school for some students this afternoon.
According to the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District's website schools in Corner Brook, Lark Harbour, Pasadena, Deer Lake, Port au Port, Rocky Harbour, Trout River, Doyles, Englee, Flower's Cove, Cook's Habour, Cow Head, L'anse au Loup, Main Brook, will reopen for the afternoon session.
All schools in the Stephenville system will also reopen.
Schools staying closed for the day include those in Conche, Daniel's Harbour, Griquet, McKay's, Meadows, Port Saunders, Roddickton, St. Anthony and Woody Point.
Updates have yet to be provided for schools in the Benoit's Cove, St. George's, Port aux Basques, Pollard's Point, Hampden and Burgeo systems.
CORNER BROOK Nearly every school in western Newfoundland is closed for at least the morning as a blizzard warning continued to be in effect for the region Thursday.
The announcements began popping up on the Newfoundland and Labrador English School Districtâ€™s daily school report website for the western region early in the morning.
The only public schools that did not indicate they would be closed for the morning were along the southwestern coast between Isle aux Morts and Francois and in southeastern Labrador.
Burgeo Academy announced its opening would be delayed by one hour.
In Corner Brook, the only school to open for classes as usual was privately run Immaculate Heart of Mary School.
Every other school from Port aux Basques to St. Anthony said they would be making a decision later in the morning regarding whether or not they would resume classes in the afternoon. Those announcements will be made between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
The stormy weather is expected to clear off in all regions by noon today. In fact, the blizzard warnings for the Burgeo-Ramea, Channel-Port aux Basques and the Bay St. George areas have now all been lifted.
Classes at Grenfell Campus, Memorial University in Corner Brook were also cancelled for the morning with an update expected around 11 a.m.
The Corner Brook and St. Anthony campuses of the College of the North Atlantic and Academy Canada in Corner Brook followed suit by closing for the morning and scheduling a further update for 11 a.m.
Academy Canada said its adult basic education site in St. Anthony will be closed for the day.
