CORNER BROOK  Tom Marshall says he will be appointing a new finance minister when he becomes the 11th premier of Newfoundland and Labrador Friday.

In an interview Thursday morning about his thoughts on the political developments that have thrust him into the top government job, the current minister of finance said someone else will be appointed to take on the job of preparing the next provincial budget.

Marshall would not say who the next finance minister will be or how much shuffling of the cabinet will be required in the aftermath of outgoing Premier Kathy Dunderdale’s resignation announcement Wednesday.

Marshall said he has a lot to think about in the coming days, including his new role in government and his now inevitable early departure from political life.

The Tory legislature member for Humber East had already said he would not be running in the next general election. That election was set for October 2015, but will now have to be held within a year in light of Dunderdale’s resignation.
