Collision at corner of Union Street and O'Connell Drive sends one to hospital

CORNER BROOK  An 18-year-old girl was taken to hospital following a two-vehicle collision Thursday in Corner Brook, police say.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to the scene, at the intersection of Union Street and O'Connell Drive, at around 4:30 p.m.

The 18-year-old, the driver of one of the vehicles, was sent to Western Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment of what police believed to be serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The RNC said damages to both vehicles was extensive.

Paramedics from Western Health and the Corner Brook Fire Department assisted police at the scene.

The collision remains under investigation and police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the RNC at 637-4100, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers: 1-800-222-8477,
