Suzanne Carey, executive director of the Western Regional Hospital Foundation addresses the Rotary Club of Corner Brook on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2013.

CORNER BROOK ‚ The Western Regional Hospital Foundation has already been focusing some of the equipment on its cases for support list on the needs of the new regional hospital.

Suzanne Carey, its executive director, told members of the Rotary Club of Corner Brook Thursday that its annual campaign of about $500,000 could continue to be influenced by equipment priorities that could be up to eight years away.

“The last few years we have had many pieces of equipment on our case for support and that is just a reflection of the move toward preparing for the move to a new facility,” she said. “There are many pieces of equipment, like MRIs and CT scanners, that can’t move or are very difficult to move to a new facility.”

The annual case for support — which this year includes the purchase of heart scan, emergency, intensive-care unit, medical imaging, orthopedics and surgical equipment — could continue to contain a wide range of equipment each year, according to Carey, until some larger items are identified for the new facility.

“We really hope to be able to contribute to the possibility of making this hospital the best hospital possible for the west coast,” she said.

The foundation aims to fill the gaps in equipment and services provided by government, identifying priority items that have not been purchased through public spending.

“Sometimes there are items that although seem very important to us as a foundation, they don’t necessarily get picked up by the government,” Carey said. “Those are the ones that we like to pick up, because those are the things that the people in the community want to see at our hospital.”

maybe they should go to all the Towns that will be using the new Hospital, go door to door and collect money (fund raiser). when the weather gets better. St. Anthony to Port Aux Basque, all points in between. This new Hospital should be state of the art ,it's going to cost lots $$$$. put the equipment in it for the people. Eastern Health is making a pile of money from sick people having to go in St. john's for Health care. plus the drive to and from St. John's.
