UPDATE: Northern peninsula schools closed and tonight's ferry crossings cancelled

CORNER BROOK Schools in Plum Point and Port Saunders wil remain closed for the remainder of the day.

It has also been announced that St. Anthony, Griquet, Cook's Harbour and L'Anse au Loup will re-open this afternoon. The closures were due to high winds and blowing snow.

The biggest area impacted is along the northern peninsula where schools were closed for the morning in Flower’s Cove, Griquet, Plum Point, Port Saunders, Cook's Harbour and St. Anthony. The school in L’Anse au Loup in Labrador was also closed for the morning.

The school in Hampden was delayed opening for an hour this morning. It is now open.

The Marine Atlantic ferries between Port aux Basques and North Sydney were able to set sail this morning for the first time since Saturday. However, the corporation has already cancelled tonight’s crossings because of continued high winds.
