CORNER BROOK  The Marine Atlantic ferry The Highlanders is delayed arriving in North Sydney this morning.

Although The Blue Puttees docked in Port aux Basques on time at 7 a.m., the crossing from Newfoundland is not expected to be able to dock until about 9 a.m. The disruption will cause a further delay for the return crossing, which is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Blue Puttees is still expected to set sail from Port aux Basques at 11:45 a.m.

Two schools throughout the wester region — one in Cook's Harbour on the northern peninsula and another in Cow Head — has delayed its opening for an hour because of the weather. High winds and blowing snow are being reported in the area along the northern peninsula. That school has been delayed or cancelled every day this week.

Road conditions throughout the region are snow covered and slippery. There are no major disruptions or warnings being reported, but there is also drifting in soem areas along the northern peninsula highway.
