CORNER BROOK  The woman charged following an alleged stabbing in Corner Brook almost a year ago received a 30-day conditional sentence for a lesser charge of breaching her probation.

Mary Lewis, 36 at the time, was arrested in February 2013 after police responded to a disturbance at a Curling area home. She was charged with assault with a weapon involving a 32-year-old man and assaulting a 35-year-old woman. She was accused of stabbing the man, who had to be treated at Western Memorial Regional Hospital.

However, in provincial court in Corner Brook Monday, the two assault-related charges were dismissed.

Lewis, who had a black eye herself when she appeared in court following her arrest, was scheduled to go to trial Monday. About a week after her arrest, she was released from custody following a bail hearing and with a number of conditions in place.
