Motorists advised to stay off the roads

CORNER BROOK  The Department of Transportation has issued serveral advisories to stay off the highways around the west coast.

According to the department’s website, motorists are being advised to stay off the Trans-Canada Highway in the Wreckhouse area where east winds are gusting to 140 kilometres per hour and the visibility is nil.

Heavy drifting is reported on the Burgeo Highway and again motorists are advised to stay off the road.

Whiteout conditions are also being reported in the area between Wiltondale and Rocky Harbour and Woody Point to Trout with an advisory to stay off those roads.

The department is recommending motorists use extreme caution in the area between Rocky Harbour and Cow Head and from Wiltondale to Woody Point where whiteout conditions are occurring.

To the east of the region, motorists are also advised to staff off the roads on the Baie Vert Peninsula. Snowcovered sections exist on the peninsula and motorists are advised to stay off the La Scie highway.
