A Corner Brook man with outstanding sex-related charges against him has been released from custody.
The man, who cannot be identified because of his relation to the alleged victim, was arrested by an off-duty RCMP officer in November 2012 while hitchhiking on the Trans-Canada Highway.
The officer just happened to be investigating files the man was wanted in connection with.
Since the arrest, the man has pleaded guilty to other charges, namely for court order breaches and theft — some of which dated back to 2003 and which happened in both Corner Brook and Nova Scotia — and was given 405 days in prison.
Charges of sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation involving a female relative of his remain before the courts and are scheduled to first go to a preliminary inquiry that has been scheduled for April 11.
With his time served for the offences to which he has pleaded guilty, the man has been granted bail until the remaining matters are dealt with.
