Crew rescued as vessel floods and sinks

 Nineteen people have been rescued from a sinking ship 120 nautical miles off Cape St. Mary's.

Just after 9:00 am Saturday morning, coast guard received a transmission from the 120 foot fishing vessel, FV Cape Dorset. The ship was flood fast and sinking.

The crew of 19 abandoned their vessel into a life raft. A Mayday relay broadcast was made and 2 fishing vessels close to the location responded. In addition 103 Squadron Cormorant, 413 Squadron Hercules and CCGS George R Pearkes responded.


Currently, the Ivy Rose is steaming towards shore and planning to rendezvous with the CCGS George R Pearkes to transfer the 19 survivors.


The Cape Dorset was last reported to be still afloat but sinking quickly. It is owned by Icewater Harvesting Inc.
