Front of the house uncovered as work continues

Janice Gould is slowly getting her house back.

The dig out of Janice Gould’s home in Port au Choix is underway.

A private business excavator, from outside the area, and town loader, are chipping away at the massive amounts of snow that buried the Port au Choix residents’ home on Sunday; when despite their best efforts the snow was piling up faster than it could be cleared away. Gould, along with her common law husband Rick Cooper, had to abandon the home and stay with her sister.

As of 5 p.m. today, Gould said the front of the house had been cleared, and work was underway to clear the sides of the home and back.

“And it was hard snow,” she said. “It’s coming out in boulders, looking the same as the ice out in the bay.”

The exposed areas of the house are showing no signs of damage, as of yet.

“As the snow is being removed (by the machinery) there’s a few guys up there clearing off the eves, and they don’t see any damage,” Gould said.

She says it’s a huge relief to have her house back, and intact, but she’s concerned about an upcoming storm looking to hit on Friday.

“We aren’t going to move back in just yet,” Gould said. “We are going to wait to see what this storm does, and we’ll also want to get the house checked over, to make sure it’s stable.”
