The Bay St. George RCMP are investigating several incidents of fraud that occurred in the Stephenville area during the past five days.

In a prepared release, Sgt. Cathy Whitehead said in two cases the men called local businesses advising the employees who answered the phone that they were owed money for services provided to the business.

They advised the employees that the business owners had authorized payments to be made, and then attended the business and picked up the payment.

In the other case, a man phoned a business pretending to be the holder of an account at the business. The man placed an order, and told the employee a third party would come to pick up the order. The man would then himself attend and pick up the order that had been charged to the account.

Two suspects have been identified and police are continuing the investigation.

Police remind employees to be vigilant when making payments to suppliers and confirm any suspicious requests with business owners.
