The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Corner Brook Region has arrested and charged two Ontario residents with extortion.

March 8, police received a complaint of extortion that allegedly occurred in Corner Brook Feb. 28.

Officers from the RNC criminal investigation division conducted an investigation. As a result, on Friday, two males — a 25-year-old and a 23-year-old — both residents of Ontario were arrested in the area of O’Connell Drive without incident.

The 23-year-old has been charged with single counts of extortion and breach of probation. The 25-year-old was charged with a single count of extortion.

Both appeared in provincial court this morning via teleconference and were remanded into custody at the Corner Brook Detention Centre. They are scheduled to appear in court again in Corner Brook Monday morning.

Const. Scott Mosher said the attempt to threaten or intimidate for personal gain was a targetted act toward a member of the public. He would not comment on any specifics of the complaint.

The RNC is continuing to investigate this incident. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the RNC at 637-4100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can now provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers Website at

Maybe I am missing something. But other than the fact two men from Ontario were apprehended on O'Connell drive for extortion, what else did this article contain???? Nothing IMHO...Amplification of "extortion" would be nice....
