A 56-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman, both of St. George’s, managed to escape out a window after the vehicle they were in rolled over on its side on Tuesday morning.

Cpl. Lori Canning of the Bay St. George RCMP said the incident was reported at 10 a.m. after the vehicle went off the road on Highway Route 490 near the Gut Bridge in Stephenville Crossing. There were no injuries as a result of the accident, which police said occurred during icy and white out conditions.

A short time earlier, at 9:23 a.m., the driver of a pickup truck plowed into a snow bank on Route 490 at Indian Head across from where the former Abitibi paper was located.

Police said there were whiteout conditions at the time, but no injuries or damages. There was some concern with the back of the pickup jutting into the road but it was removed shortly after.
