After two days of extensive aerial and ground search for missing Roddickton resident Tom Newman, the RCMP is following up on its only lead, a snowmobile track that leads to the edge of the ice.
Newman was reportedly last seen in the area of Beaver Cove in the Chimney Bay area near Roddickton, Saturday morning. He was operating a White Yamaha VK snowmobile.
According to Corporal Mike Babstock the two-day aerial search was conducted over land and water.
“They covered the entire area where he was reported missing, but wasn’t able to pick up either sign,” he said.
Ground Search and Rescue, along with the Canadian Rangers, was tasked to searching all areas accessible by snowmobile, shorelines, trails, and cabins surrounding Chimney Bay.
“We’ve exhausted all the avenues of ground search that may have led to him being in the woods or a cabin, all of those things have been ruled out, so our strongest evidence right now is the snowmobile track that leads out to the water,” Babstock said.
RCMP divers have been called in to conduct an underwater search. The team is currently on route and expected to dive tomorrow.
