Sonali Verma

Due to a change from a spring to a fall pageant, Sonali Verma of Stephenville has become the reigning Miss Teen Newfoundland and Labrador 2014.

The Miss Teen pageant was traditionally held in March, but has now been realigned to a fall event, with the next pageant taking place Oct. 5 in St. John’s.

The additional six months allows two girls to share the title — Raylene Mackey of Goulds wore the crown for the first 12 months, and now Verma, the first runner-up takes over the title for the remaining six months.

Verma was born in Stephenville and graduated from Stephenville High School in 2013. In addition to many other volunteer activities, she is the co-captain of a Relay for Life team and volunteers at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital.

Verma completed the Gold Duke of Edinburgh program and was named Stephenville’s youth of the year.
