Jeff Murrin of Corner Brook enters provincial court in Corner Brook on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, after being arrested for allegedly driving while impaired twice overnight Monday, April 28, 2014,

A Corner Brook man arrested twice, just hours apart, for suspected impaired driving was released from custody Tuesday.

Jeff Murrin, 41, was first arrested by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary at about 11:45 p.m. Monday. Police stopped a vehicle they say was being driven by the accused in the area of O’Connell Drive. They had received an anonymous report of a suspected drunken driver in the Sunnyslope Drive area.

Murrin refused to take the breathalyzer test, according to police.

Later in the morning, patrolling officers saw the same vehicle being driven erratically in the Caribou Road area. The vehicle crashed into a fence post. Police again arrested Murrin, this time at about 2:45 a.m. Again, he refused the breathalyzer, said police.

He was charged with impaired driving and refusing the breath test during both offences and a fifth charge of driving while suspended during the latter arrest.

Crown attorney Brenda Duffy consented to Murrin’s release, pending a number of conditions. He is scheduled back in court June 10.
