After another long winter, there is lots of debris to be cleaned up around Mt. Patricia Cemetery in Corner Brook. The hope is lots of volunteers will come out and help tidy up the graveyard during Saturday's spring cleanup.
Rod McGinn is hoping for a lot of helping hands when it comes to cleaning up Mount Patricia Cemetery in Corner Brook Saturday.
The cemetery is attempting its first-ever volunteer spring cleanup, starting at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
McGinn, the cemetery’s custodian, said there is a lot of work to be done despite a cleanup of the graveyard site last fall. The flowers and ornaments left on graves since the autumn cleanup and throughout the winter have since been blown all over the pace, including the nearby woods surrounding the site.
McGinn said some of the items include broken glass that pose a hazard for maintenance crews as they go about their regular work of levelling sunken graves, righting headstones and other landscaping chores.
