Sperm Whale at Marche's Point for sale on eBay
The Town of Cape St. George is hoping some museum or other organization that could use a whale skeleton will purchase the 40-foot sperm whale that washed up on the beach in Marche’s Point last week.
That's why the town has turned to the online auction website eBay.com in an attempt to get rid of that dead beached whale. The item is featured in the "Really Weird" category on the eBay website.
The town is asking for bids on the dead whale. The listing on eBay is for seven days and the successful bidder will have to remove the whale within 30 days.
"The 40 foot sperm whale will make a spectacular exhibit once the fat and muscle is removed, and the town is asking museums and other organizations that could use a whale skeleton to contact the town for further details," Mayor Peter Fenwick said in a news release.
He said as a town they would dearly love to keep the whale and put it on exhibit but the cost of such a venture would be hard to justify.
Anyone interested in purchasing the whale carcass can contact the town at (709) 644-2290 or Fenwick at (709) 649-7070.
