Infrastructure upgrades coming for three communities

Federal and provincial investments totaling more than $205,000 were announced Thursday for three communities in western and northern Newfoundland.

The investments, announced by Rob Moore, regional minister for Newfoundland and Labrador, and Susan Sullivan, provincial minister of innovation, business and rural development, will support improvements to key pieces of community infrastructure.

The town of Massey Drive received $7,016 to upgrade and renovate an existing portion of the town hall.

The Association Regionale de la Cote ouest (ARCO) received $22,566 (federal) and $27,962 (provincial) to upgrade and improve two community centres located in the communities of Cape St. George and Mainland.

ARCO contributed $12,248 towards the project.

St. Anthony Basin Resources Inc. (SABRI) received $63,237 (federal) and $85,101 (provincial) to upgrade several existing trails in the region, install gangplanks at the L’Anse aux Meadows docking facility, prepare an area at L’Anse aux Meadows for the donated Leif Erikson statue, install necessary signage and update the local trail guide.

SABRI contributed approximately $178,000 towards the project.
