It’s highly unlikely baseball legends Rickey Henderson, Lou Brock or Tim Raines were in town recently, so the RCMP is trying to figure out who has stolen all of the bases from the baseball field in Upper Ferry.

Stealing bases when playing baseball is a good thing for a team offensively, but the Codroy Valley Recreation Committee is not at all happy about this offence.

The committee recently reported to the Port aux Basques detachment of the RCMP that all three bases and the home plate from its ball field have been stolen. The committee figures the thievery took place some time in the last couple of weeks.

The bases had been left out on the field for the use and enjoyment of all residents, but apparently they were not safe. The recreation committee said, even though the stolen bases were quite old, the cost to replace them could be between $400 and $500.

The RCMP is seeking the assistance of the public in providing any information that could lead to either the return of the equipment or out the people responsible. The recreation committee has also asked the people responsible to simply return the bases for the community to enjoy.

Anyone with information regarding the stolen bases is asked to please contact the Port Aux Basques RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
