The Bay St. George RCMP received two reports of accidents on the Trans-Canada Highway involving moose on Thursday and police are asking drivers to be aware.

The first was reported at 4 p.m. near Gallants intersection when a woman, who was alone in her vehicle, hit a moose.

Personnel from the Wildlife Division of the Department of Environment and Conservation attended and removed the dead animal.

At 10 p.m. there was a report of a moose vehicle accident on the Trans-Canada Highway near Southwest Brook with no injuries reported.

Cpl. Richard Basha said drivers need to be especially cautious of moose as this is time of the year the mothers are driving their young away and the calves sometimes wander onto the roads.
